I am excited to share with you some fun I have been having the past few weeks. If you are a reader of my blogs you know I am a fan of Donna Maria from the Indie Beauty Network. Donna Maria hosts a weekly Twitter Chat on Thursday evenings from 8-8:30 pm. The purpose of the Twitter Chat is to share information about making, buying and selling handmade products.
The month of June had been lined up with some great co-hosts and I am honored to be a part of this wonderful group. On June 7, 2012 LaShonda Tyree CEO of the Handmade Soap Coach provided such great information about how to Make Money Teaching DIY Classes.
Here is a recap of the Twitter Chat:
Indie Business: There are many DIY classes today, how do you stand out in a crowded market?
LaShonda: Use pictures to promote your classes. Post them to your Facebook page and Twitter feed. Designate a hashtag so those who are tweeting can tweet your event with the hashtag. Most importantly collaboration with others always help. If you have a guesthost then work together to cross promote. Deliver what you promise but also have lots of fun!
Indie Business: What are the best tips to starting to teach DIY classes without being overwhelmed?
LaShonda: Simply stated – don’t be all things to all people. Don’t teach everything you know, teach what you are best at. Focus on strengths, survey your newsletter subscribers and ask them what they would like. When you focus your efforts in this way then you are able to offer relevant classes and everyone is happy.
Indie Business: What are your best tips for promoting DIY classes?
LaShonda: Social media of course! Blog, newsletter, Twitter, FaceBook etc. Creating a single link helps so you can guide people directly there. Be sure to post photos (if possible) before and after. There are also offline ways to like direct mail, local papers etc.
Stay tuned for the write up on June 14, 2012 8 PM EST where you will learn about Mary Humphrey, owner of Annie’s Goat Hill Soap. Mary will teach us How to Use Milk in Handmade Soap.
