We have been chatting via Twitter using the hashtag #HandmadeChat and we have learned so much! Tonight was my night to share with the participants How to Use Herbs & Natural Colorants in Handmade Soap. It is great sharing with others things what I do to keep my soaps as natural as possible & utilizing what I have available to create beautiful soaps.
Here are some of the Q & A that took place that night:
Q1: What can I use to color my soaps naturally?
A1a: First place is to look in your kitchen; powdered herbs, spices, coffee etc.
A1b: Soap can be naturally colored with Clays (Moroccan Red Clay, Kaolin Clay) etc.
A1c: Soap can be colored with vegetable juice, like carrots and beets
Q4: Using natural colors, how to maintain a consistent color in each handmade batch of soap?
A4a: Handcrafted soap can vary from batch to batch, not much but it can.
A4b: Taking diligent notes does help in creating a consistent batch.
